Print Class Final

Below is my final project for my print class this quarter. I now am officially done with all my classes for the quarter, and will be enjoying my spring break. I'm really happy with how this quarter turned out. Lots of work, but in my opinion lots of pay off too.

Themes Class Project + Abstract Painting

First, here are some pictures from my final project in my Art Themes class I took this quarter. After that I posted some images of an abstract painting that I have been working on in my Intermediate Painting class.

So this image is actually life sized. She's about 5 feet 5inch tall and is colored in watercolor. The picture is really washed out which makes it hard ti see everything that is going on. I should take close up shots of the different panels.

Anyways, I also want to go over it again and add more shadows and color. At first I thought I wanted to do a light wash of color, but now looking at it I think I need a little more. I will say, that I think it looks better in person.
Here is the abstract painting I have been working on in my Intermediate Painting class. I'm actually really proud of how it came out. At first I was a little unsure, but now I rather enjoy it. The 3 squares are done in a Jackson Pollock sort of way.

It's a pretty big painting in person. Also, the colors are a little off in this picture.

This quarter I have felt pretty good about the art I make. It's a nice feeling. Everything just seemed to slightly work out better this quarter.

I definitely want to keep drawing and painting. Especially in the themes I discovered this quarter,

WIP Themes Class Project

So, I meant to post these pictures about a week ago, but I forgot.  So here they are a little late. I'm working on a life sized picture of a goddess. She's mixed with various plants and animals. I finished her legs and now am currently working on her water color (because I'm coloring her too). So yeah, there you go. It is daunting and I'm just slightly stressed from all the work I have this quarter (and because I'm not super skilled at water color because I haven't worked with it very much in the past).

Dry-Point Print

Here are some pictures from my latest print assignment. I did this woman in dry-point. She is "made of" and surrounded by a bunch of animals and organic material.

This first one printed so light is was almost unseeable, but then I went over it completely in pen and ink to make it darker.
 This one printed super light.
This one has really essay sides.
This one double printed so it looks like it jumps off the paper and bugs your eyes out. Because of that I decided to start futzing around with water color. It's still rather messy and quick.

Final Prints + Final Painting

Here are my final prints for my print class as well as my final painting in my painting class. Overall I'm happy with how everything turned out. But, I wouldn't mind trying new color combos in the future. For all of these the colors look a bit better in person.

Here are my 11 best prints together.
 Close ups of the orange.

Close ups of more plain orange.

Close ups of just black.

This is my atempt to use ink wash on one of the plain orange prints to get a slight blue watery looking background. It looks better in person. I might try to experiment more with blue ink wash and maybe even blue pen and ink. Draw on the prints to give it a watery looking pattern or something. I don't know.

Here is my final painting. In this picture you can see it next to the picture I was referencing. I decided not to do all the stars and instead tried to make it look as if they are coming from her mouth. I hope it looks like that. I might later go back and slightly rework the stars.

Overall though I'm really happy with how it turned out considering that my last major painting wasn't anywhere near this good haha.

I want to keep working with paints.

Octopus + Tiger Art Projects

Here are some projects I'm working on. The first two are prints from a linoleum block that I carved. I still have other styles of this design that I'm working on. But, here are a few examples of what I've done so far. So far I'm very happy with the out come.

The last image is a picture of my in progress painting. I still have a lot more to do, but I'm happy with how it's coming along. Especially the tiger's face. The image that I'm painting from is shown next to it.  It looks a lot better in person.

Actually, both of these projects look better in person haha.

Themes Art Class Assignments

Here are two assigments that were due today in my Themes art class.

We were given 3 prompts to choose from and I picked the one "A drawing of your bike or car."
Believe it or not but this is representative of my car. My car is a Hyundai Tiburon, which means "shark" in Spanish. So, I drew a mechanical shark surrounded by generic/stereotypical Latin culture party decorations etc. I also wrote Bruce on his side because that is the name of my car. (I got it from the shark in Finding Nemo named Bruce, who was named after the mechanical shark in Jaws. So it's pretty deep haha).

This was my piece for our main project. I did it in pen and ink. It's a drawing of the Hercules monument in Kassel, Germany (where my grandmother was born and raised).

Over all I guess I'm okay with it, but at the same time I have major issues with it. *sigh* Oh well, I guess I'm still learning/getting better haha. The lettering was done on an old style printing press.

Some Printed Images

Here are some prints I did in my beginning print class. You can see the learning curve I went through from the not so great bottom ones to the better ones on the top.

Some Old Artwork

So, I just want to showcase some of the art work that I've done in the past. It's not necessarily my bets work, but it is the work I currently have pictures of on my computer.

A painting of a memorial to my deceased fish.
A large drawing using pen and Sharpie. It got a little muddled and I wish it had come out slightly different. But, over all I'm happy with it.
A pen and ink picture of a monster pet. This one was fun. It was based off of a stick monster that we had to make in class.
A drawing using, colored pencil, oil pastel, ink, and, charcoal. It's also fairly big.
